MOSCOW, February 5 (Itar-Tass) — Police laid bare a heist of a Russian Mail office in Moscow. One of the heisters was nabbed, and part of money was returned, Itar-Tass learnt on Sunday from the press service of the Moscow police department.
The armed attack on the Russian Mail office was made on Friday in the Korneichuk Street. The haul of robbers was seven million roubles.
“During investigative operations, detectives zeroed in on a supposed tipper-off that turned to be a communication operator of the office. He conveyed information to his acquaintance who was a repeater that that seven million roubles would be brought to the office,” police said.
According to the police department, a young man along with his acquaintance drafted a criminal scheme, distributed roles and drove to the office on Friday at 07.00.
“On waiting for a signal from the tipper-off that the money is at the cashier’s office and collectors had gone, the robbers entered the office from a back door. Threatening the staff members with an article, looking like a pistol, and spraying liquid from a gas can, the heisters stole money from the cashier’s office.
“On dashing into the street, they jumped into a parked car and drove in the direction of the Mir (Peace) Avenue,” the press service specified.
The press service emphasized that by the evening, on identifying the tipper-off, detectives of the North-Eastern Borough of Moscow, examined all his contacts and zeroed in on other law-breakers.
“One of them was nabbed in an attempt to leave Moscow at the Leningrad rail terminal early in the morning on Saturday, February 4. He had a hand-bag with 1.3 million roubles. Later, while searching his flat, detectives found another 3.7 million roubles, pneumatic firearms and a gas can,” police reported.
“The robber handed over part of the money to his associate who is now on the Wanted List.”
A criminal case was instituted under the article of the Russian Criminal Code “Large-scale brigandage”.
