MOSCOW, February 5 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow regrets that the authors of the draft resolution on Syria did not want to take additional efforts to reach a consensus, said on Sunday Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov.
“Regrettably, the authors of the Syrian draft resolution did not want to take additional efforts to reach a consensus,” the diplomat wrote in his microblog in Twitter – “The result is known”.
On Saturday, Russia and China used their veto right while voting at the Security Council on the Morocco-brokered draft resolution on Syria. As many as 13 states voiced support for the document, co-sponsored by seven Security Council member states, against two.
On an instruction from the Russian president, Sergei Lavrov and director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov will go to Damascus on February 7 to meet Syrian President Bashar Assad.
