SEVERODVINSK, Arkhangelsk region, February 2 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Navy will not decommission its third-generation submarines – instead of this, it will modernize them and extend their service-life by another seven years, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told reporters here Thursday.
“We’ll revise the plans related to the commissioning of some multirole submarines built during the Soviet era,” Rogozin said, adding that the submarines will undergo several repairs, not just one repair, and will be equipped with new weaponry systems.
“After the modernization, each submarine will stay in service for another seven years versus the standard 3.5 years,” he said.
