KIEV, February 2 (Itar-Tass) —— The death toll caused by severe cold in Ukraine, where air temperatures dropped to 30 Celsius below zero, grew to 63, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry for Emergency Situations said on Thursday.
The victims include eight people who died of exposure to cold in the hospitals, 41 were found dead on the streets and 14 more died indoors.
Over the past six days a total of 1,246 people asked for medical help, complaining about cold exposure and frost bites; 945 victims have been hospitalized.
The Ukrainian weather service said in the weather forecast that severe cold in Ukraine would continue for ten more days. Air temperatures are expected to go up in the end of the following week, it is said. In mid- February the weather will improve with air temperatures to remain on the level of 10 degrees below zero at night and rising to a zero degrees Celcius in the afternoon.
