NALCHIK, February 2 (Itar-Tass) — The head of one of Kabardino-Balkaria’s district has been badly wounded as his car came under gunfire. The driver was killed, a spokesman for the republican administration of the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
“At about 09:00 a.m. Moscow time on Thursday, the Mercedes car with Urvansky district head Antemirkan Kanokov and a police officer came under gunfire in a motorway between the settlement of Shitkhala and the administrative centre of the district Nartkala,” the spokesman said.
Kanokov received two severe wounds and was hospitalized. The police officer who drove the car died instantly.
A criminal case was opened on charges of attempted murder, attempt on the life of a police officer, and illegal possession of arms. Police are serving for the assaulters.
