VLADIVOSTOK, February 2 (Itar-Tass) —— After the train derailed on the Trans-Siberian main line in the Amur Region on January 31, 240 tonnes of oil spilled from the tank cars. The updated information about the accident consequences was reported by the Emergencies Ministry's Far Eastern regional centre on Thursday.

The oil is in a so-called technological trench a metre from the track. There is no threat to health and lives of people and no leakage to water sources.

The federal environment monitoring agency's local specialists estimate damage done to the environment.

Seventeen tank cars with oil derailed at the site. The electric line was damaged, and it caused a fire. Two tracks, 250 metres, were destroyed. Two electro-transmission line supports were damaged. Spilled oil covered 1,000 sq m. The blaze was extinguished the same day. The repair work was completed on February 1. Train traffic on the railroad has returned to normal.

A repair team of the Russian Railways company is working at the site to gather the oil. Oil collecting equipment, vacuum pumps, tractors, bulldozers and other machines are used in the work. Oil is pumped into tank cars there. The operation is planned to be completed on February 6.
