VLADIVOSTOK, February 2 (Itar-Tass) —— Fifty-degree frosts remain in the Far Eastern region. The lowest temperatures of up to 52-53 degrees were reported in the Chukotka villages of Markovo and Omolon overnight, said the head of the Chukotka meteorological and environment monitoring department, Dmitry Kozelov.
Frosts of 30-40 degrees below zero remain in all the other residential sites on the peninsula.
"It is ordinary weather in winter for us," Kozelov told Itar-Tass by telephone.
The temperature was 51 degrees below zero in Kolyma and the northern Evenki district overnight. Forty degrees below zero were recorded in eight residential sites in the Magadan Region.
The Yakut settlement of Oimyakon, one of the planet’s cold poles, reported 51 degrees below zero.
The cold front has come also to the Khabarovsk and Primorsky territories, the Amur and Jewish regions, Sakhalin and Kamchatka. All the regions report frosts of 30-45 degrees. Even on the Primorsky Territory's coast, where winters are not so severe, as it is warned by the Sea of Japan, 20-degree frosts set in this winter, and there is no snow at all in many of its costal residential sites.
