Salmonellosis outbreak Dalnegorsk kindergartens, Primorsky Krai

There has been an outbreak of salmonellosis in kindergartens of the town of Dalnegorsk in the Primorsky Territory of Russia

VLADIVOSTOK, January 30 (Itar-Tass) — There has been an outbreak of salmonellosis in kindergartens of the town of Dalnegorsk in the Primorsky Territory of Russia. As many as 28 children and one adult who had these symptoms needed emergency aid in the period from January 25 to 29. On Monday, acute intestinal infection was found in nine of them, the press service of the Dalnegorsk administration reported.

Salmonella infection was found in four children of the Kolosok kindergarten. The preschool institution has been closed. The sick children were examined by medics and taken to the infectious disease ward at the local hospital. According to the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service (Rospotrebnadzor), the infection cases have also been registered in three other kindergartens of Dalnegorsk.

Sanitary doctors are currently trying to find out the infection sources. Unscheduled medical examinations of children have been carried out at all children’s institutions of Dalnegorsk, the local hospital has provided 20 additional beds for receiving patients in case the infection spreads. The situation has been recognised as emergency. A probe is underway into the fact of the mass salmonellosis outbreak.
