PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, January 30 (Itar-Tass) — An unidentified vandal damaged the iconostasis at the St. Trinity Church, which is the easternmost Orthodox church in Russia, in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the press service of the police department in the Kamchatka Territory told Itar-Tass on Monday.

A clergyman of the church called the police. He noted that the unidentified vandal broke in the church overnight to January 29. The criminal broke the cash box at the church shop. Finding no money he set the church on fire and escaped.

Priest of the church Alexei Apatov said that the night guards were feeling the smoke smell and called the fire service. The fire was put out. The icon of St. Nicholas the Miracle-Worker was damaged in the church.

The police launched the investigation in the incident. The police are searching for the offender.
