MURMANSK, January 29 (Itar-Tass) — The sun made its first appearance in Murmansk on Sunday after nearly two months of polar nights.
The celebrations of the sun’s return are rooted in a centuries-old tradition of the Sami indigenous people on the Kola Peninsula. Murmansk marked the event with a concert and a feast.
The sun stayed above the horizon for almost 30 minutes, and the light frost made the cheering crowds even more animated.
