MOSCOW, January 29 (Itar-Tass) — Just Russia leader Sergei Mironov, running for the Russian presidency, published this week his election platform.
“The country’s development over the past years convinced me that the course of consolidating the vertical of power has exhausted itself,” says the document under the title “Course -- for justice”, placed at the official site of the candidate.
Mironov is convinced that “the only reliable guarantee of the country’s future is consolidation of democratic foundations of our society and a return of justice into our life”. He underlines that “the government policy needs not just a serious adjustment, but a sweeping rehashing”, since “despite all declarations of past years, the country has not been able to overcome dependence of economic growth on export of commodities”; and social inequality remains Russia’s main calamity.
The basis of Mironov’s platform has become the programme of the Just Russia Party that nominated him for the presidential elections. “My choice is a social democratic turn in the country’s development,” he emphasized.
“Social Democratic course for Russia is construction of a just and progressive society in the interests of all Russian citizens and democratization of economic, social and political institutes.”
The candidate of Just Russia promises, in the political part of his platform, to take steps on developing further democracy – development of the party system and political competition. “The Russian people should have a chance of choosing between various political trends during free and honest elections as well as a chance to change a government by peaceful means,” Mironov writes with conviction.
He suggests making changes in the Constitution so as to limit the stay in the presidential office by two terms during one’s life, to ditch the practice of transferring power to “a successor”, to repeal the participation of the head of state in forming the leadership of the Audit Chamber and high juridical instances as well as to grant the State Duma the right to nominate independently and to approve the cabinet head and ministers.
In Mironov’s opinion, a provision should be also made for a chance of forming a coalition government, while important questions of the country’s development, including constitutional amendments, should be put to referendum.
