OMSK, January 29 (Itar-Tass) — Five people, including three children, died in a fire at a private home in the Omsk Region, Itar-Tass learnt at the press service of the regional branch of the Ministry for Emergencies.
The tragedy took place in the district centre of Maryanovka. Press service head of the Omsk regional branch of the Ministry for Emergencies Alexei Puryshev told Tass that a signal about the fire was received by the firefighting service too late when the entire house was already engulfed in flames. The roof caved in during the firefighting operation.
While clearing up debris, firefighters uncovered the bodies of a man and a woman as well as of two four-year-old girls and a three-year-old boy. The initial information from neighbours on the presence of the fourth child in the family has not been confirmed so far.
According to data of the press service head, 39 people died in residential areas of the Omsk Region in fires since the start of January. A very cold spell has set in the south of Western Siberia on this Sunday. The local emergencies service called on population with a request to display special care while using oven heating, home-made heating gadgets and to prevent the overload of power grids.
