MOSCOW, January 29 (Itar-Tass) — About a thousand tourists who bought travel vouchers from the Lanta Tour Voyage company will be unable to go on their foreign trips as the firm is struggling to solve its financial difficulties, the Association of Russian Tourist Operators reports.

“Two thousand seven hundred Lanta Tour tourists are currently staying abroad. The Transaero air carrier has promised to lift all of them without any additional charges,” the association’s representatives said. They explained that 3,700 people could demand compensations from the Ingosstrakh insurance company which had insured Lanta Tour Voyage for 100 million rubles.

For its part, the Russian Committee for Tourism has asked the Russian Aviation Committee to contact Aeroflot and discuss the possibility of carrying Lanta’s tourists back to Russia without any additional charges.

Lanta Tour Voyage has agreed to inform the Russian Committee for Tourism about what debts it was owing to its partners so as to avoid incidents of extortion of additional payment for hotel accommodation and other services from its tourists.

Lanta Tour Voyage, one of the biggest tourism operators in the Russian market, unexpectedly suspended its activities on Friday. As a result, about 100 customers failed to fly abroad on the night to January 28.
