MOSCOW, January 28 (Itar-Tass) — The Rosturism agency opened “a hot line” to help tourists, stranded as a result of a sudden suspension of operations by known Russian tour operator Lanta Tur Voyage.
Around 100 client tourists of the company cannot fly on already paid tours from Moscow, reported press secretary of the Russian Union of the Tour Industry Irina Tyurina. “Regrettably, Aeroflot stopped issuing tickets to the tour operator Lanta Tur Voyage over financial problems of this company".
“Tourists are stranded at Moscow airports. Some 40 – in Domodedovo, several dozens – in Sheremetyevo; incidentally many of them came from other regions, and they intended to fly to distant countries – Thailand and Vietnam,” Tyurina said live on Rossiya 24 TV channel.
“They are even now served as passengers of a delayed flight, since flights have not been paid for. Consequently, they are not offered either water, meals or accommodation. Under these circumstances, they are supposed to pay tickets again, but it is not clear again whether their hotels abroad are paid for,” she noted.
According to Tyurina, “financial liability of the tour operator Lanta Tur Voyage is 100 million roubles. But it is not clear whether this money is enough to redeem paid tours to all tourists who will not use these tours”.
“We believe that the number may run into several thousands of tourists. But all will depend on how many appeals will be sent to an insurance company. It is a big one – Ingosstrakh, and consequently, it is ready to receive applications. It was already made known that it is ready to pay out. But the crux of the matter is whether it has money for all,” Tyurina continued.
Lanta Tur Voyage -- one of the biggest companies in the Russian market – suspended its operations all of a sudden on Friday. The company is in business for over 12 years. It offers tours to such countries as Thailand, Vietnam and India.
