NALCHIK, January 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Contradicting reports came on Thursday about an armed attack on a school in volatile Kabardino-Balkaria in North Caucasus however different sources agreed it was no hostage taking.
Law enforcers in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, said a man was killed in school #19 close to 22:00 hours Moscow time, but denied reports about hostages in the school. Anyway children were hardy expected to be in the school at such a late hour.
In Moscow the Investigative committee said three masked gunmen broke into the gym of the school where seven men were training. “They tied them up and one had his throat cut,” the committee said adding the victim was an army serviceman.
Other sources reported gunfire in the school and Russian Children’s Rights Commissioner Pavel Astakhov said the incident was likely a domestic crime.
“Kabardino-Balkaria police said domestic brawl developed into gunfire. The people involved are aged from 19 to 30. All have been detained,” Astakhov said in his Twitter blog.
However earlier police said the gunmen had fled.
