Russia to do its best not to let establish no-flight zone in Syria

"The concept of the no-flight zone was totally perverted by NATO countries when they were implementing resolutions 1970 and 1973 on Libya", Deputy Foreign Minister said

MOSCOW, January 26 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian will do its best not to let a no-flight zone be established in Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Thursday.

“A no-flight zone as concept was for the first time used in the process of sanction pressure against Iraq,” he said in an interview with the Ekho Moskvy radio station. “But the concept of the no-flight zone was totally perverted by NATO countries when they were implementing resolutions 1970 and 1973 on Libya, because, as a matter of fact, they conducted a combat operation on the side of one the parties to a civil conflict.”

“This scheme must not be used in Syria, moreover, we shall do our best not to let it happen. Otherwise the principles of international order will be undermined,” he stressed.
