DAVOS, January 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich said he does not want to quarrel with Russia over gas supplies, but will keep looking for alternative sources of natural gas.

“We do not want to quarrel with anyone. We want to approach the issue in a balanced way in order to find cooperation benefits for all,” Yanukovich was quoted by his press service as saying at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

Ukraine wants lower prices of Russian gas while Moscow conditions the decrease on control of the Ukrainian gas transit network through a bilateral consortium. Ukraine suggests the European Union should also be a party of the consortium and in the meantime said it would look for alternative sources of natural gas supplies.

“The talk is about both diversified gas supply sources and the creation of a gas transportation consortium,” Yanukovich said.

“As for the consortium, it is necessary to unite the resources of its members in order to ensure reliable supplies of agreed gas volumes to Europe,” the president said adding “the issue should be resolved pragmatically and transparently.”
