Russia keeps leading in number of lawsuits in Strasbourg Court

According to the statistical report at the end of 2011 the European Court of Human Rights will try over 40,000 cases from Russia

STRASBOURG, January 26 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia keeps leading in the number of lawsuits, which are filed in the European Court of Human Rights, President of the court Nicolas Bratza said on Thursday, presenting a report of the court for the previous year. Turkey is traditionally ranked second in this list.

According to the statistical report at the end of 2011 the European Court of Human Rights will try over 40,000 cases from Russia that will make about 27% from an overall number of lawsuits pending a verdict from all countries of the Council of Europe, the report runs. About each tenth lawsuit against Russia is satisfied partially or completely, the most frequent violations in Russia are the illegal deprivation of freedom, tortures and the lack of efficient investigation, the document said.

The specialists estimated that the Russian budget spends about 10 million euros every year from the compensations over the lawsuits satisfied in the Strasbourg Court.
