Russian helicopter group to leave South Sudan before April 1

MOSCOW, January 26 (Itar-Tass) — The Russian aircraft group must be withdrawn from South Sudan before April 1, 2012, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.

The diplomat said, on January 23 President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the withdrawal of Russia’s helicopter group from South Sudan. “It must be withdrawn before April 1 this year,” Lukashevich said, adding that Russian aircraft group has worked in Sudan since 2006 under the United Nations Mission in Sudan.
