MOSCOW, January 26 (Itar-Tass) — The investigation will make additional experiments on the Politkovskaya murder case which will enable to eliminate the discrepancies in the data collected earlier during forensic examinations, spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee ( SK) Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass.
"New mass media reports about a new, sensational evidence allegedly found on the Politkovskaya murder case is no more that an attempt to discredit the investigation and create a public opinion of advantage to the defendants before the coming trial. Spreading such information the lawyers are already now attempting to exercise influence on the opinion of a potential jury," Markin said.
In the framework of the criminal case information is being verified as to whom the DNA sample, found inside the pistol from which the shots had been fired, belongs. Earlier, genetic tests conducted with the use of the DNA sample merely suggested, rather than stated, that the killer might have been a woman.
"Incidentally, such a conclusion was made by an expert organization which had not voiced such presumptions earlier," Markin said. To get an answer to the new question put by the investigation an additional examination will be conducted which is hoped to remove the existing discrepancies, Markin said.
