Medvedev ready to consider pardoning “Other Russia” party activist

The defense insists that charges against Osipova were a frame-up

MOSCOW, January 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said he was ready to consider the appeal to pardon activist of “Other Russia” party Taisia Osipova sentenced to ten years of the deprivation of freedom on charges of possessing and dealing in narcotics.

“I am ready to demand the materials of the case and instruct the prosecution office to analyze them once again,” the president said at a meeting with students of the journalism department. “If her appeal for pardon is made in accordance with the established procedure, I will certainly be prepared to consider it,” the president said. “But the initiative must certainly come from the convicted person,” he added.

The defense insists that charges against Osipova were a frame-up. She was brought to judicial responsibility more than once in the past for her public actions addressed to representatives of the authorities.

Osipova is the mother of a five-year child and suffers from a number of serious diseases, among them diabetes mellitus.
