MOSCOW, January 23 (Itar-Tass) — There are no chances against corruption in Russia without spiritual recovery of the nation, the speaker of the Federation Council upper house of parliament, Valentina Matviyenko, said on Monday.
“Corruption has become a serious threat to viability of the state, of the whole country,” the speaker stated. “This phenomenon is simply impossible in this scope in a highly spiritual, highly moral society,” Matviyenko said.
“However, if spiritual foundations of the society have been weakened, and corruption has filled all its pores, it is impossible to overcome that evil only with the use of force,” she is confident. Matviyenko is sure that “an insistent work of the state, public institutions, the Russian Orthodox Church and other traditional religions, aimed at spiritual rehabilitation of the nation” is the only way of an efficient fight against corruption.
Within that context, the speaker puts much emphasis on cooperation of the state, the society and the Orthodox Church, including in such an important sector as public education.
