MOSCOW, January 23 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow lauds the LAS efforts on the peaceful settlement in Syria without foreign interference, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.
“Moscow considers important Cairo’s choice towards continuing the LAS efforts on the peaceful settlement in Syria without foreign interference and with respect of the country’s sovereignty. The Syrian government and the opposition should show their readiness to take decisions on speeding up democratic processes in the country,” the ministry said.
“It is necessary to prevent a large-scale armed conflict, especially an ethnically charged civil war. We are convinced that this will have tragic consequences for the fate of Syria and the entire region,” the ministry said.
“The priority task is to launch a real, serious inter-Syrian political dialogue. During the dialogue, Syrians themselves should coordinate concrete steps towards overcoming the crisis in the country,” the ministry said.
