RF Supreme Court to retry case eliminating RF Republican Party

The Supreme Court satisfied the lawsuit of the Federal Registration Service in the spring of 2007

MOSCOW, January 23 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian Supreme Court cancelled a decision Monday to eliminate the Russian Republican Party and ruled to review a relevant lawsuit filed by the Russian Federal Registration Service. The lawsuit filed by the party leader Vladimir Ryzhkov was satisfied. He asked to the Supreme Court to retry this case on basis of the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights over new facts.

The Supreme Court satisfied the lawsuit of the Federal Registration Service in the spring of 2007. The Federal Registration Service asked to eliminate the party over the violation of the law on political parties. Later the Strasbourg Court found that the 11th Article of the European Convention of Human Rights was violated. This article of the Convention guarantees the freedom of assemblies and associations. This verdict entered in legal force on September 15.
