BRUSSELS, January 23 (Itar-Tass) —— The EU states reached an agreement Monday to introduce new sanctions against Syria, a diplomatic source in Brussels said.

Some 22 officials of Bashar al-Assad’s rule, which, according to the European Union, are responsible for a brutal suppression of the opposition protests, were put on the EU black list. Meanwhile, eight Syrian companies, which fund the incumbent regime, were put on the black list, a European official said.

This will be the 11th package of sanctions, which the EU imposed against Syria since the beginning of the previous year.

Over 100 individuals, which are banned to enter the EU and make their deposits in European banks, as well as over ten companies, which are banned to cooperate with European business, are on the current black list for Syria. Meanwhile, the EU introduced an embargo on the oil trade with Syria.
