France’s statements about Iran’s nuclear prog are far from reality

“We believe, that by speaking about non-peaceful character of our nuclear programme, the French president tries to exert pressure on Iran,” - Iran's Foreign Ministry

TEHRAN, January 22 (Itar-Tass) —— The statements of France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy are far from reality and unreasonable, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told the Islamic Republic News Agency /IRNA/ on Sunday.

He said that Sarkozy’s claims that Iran was aspiring production of nuclear weapon are not true to life.

“We believe, that by speaking about non-peaceful character of our nuclear programme, the French president tries to exert pressure on Iran,” Mehmanparast said. He called the announced and future sanctions against Iran as “illegal and unfair.”

On Friday, Nicolas Sarkozy called for more strict international sanctions against Iran saying that Iran’s regime by trying to get access to nuclear weapons was leading that country to a catastrophe. At the same time, France’s president said that a military mission against Iran would not solve the problem, but would rather cause a war and chaos in the Middle East and, possibly, in the entire world.
