Motor cars sales in Russia in 2011 up by 70% on 2010 to near $59 bln

Car imports in 2011 stood at 840,000 vehicles to a sum of 28.3 million U.S. dollars

MOSCOW, January 19 (Itar-Tass) — Sales of new motor cars in Russia in 2011 in monetary terms went up by 70 percent on the previous year to reach 58.9 billion U.S. dollars, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) partner Stanley Root said in a presentation circulated here on Thursday.

According to PwC data, a total of 2.5 motor cars were sold in Russia in 2011, including 620,000 cars of domestics brands to a sum of 6.9 billion U.S. dollars (as compared to 5.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2010), and 1.04 million foreign-brand cars manufactured in Russia to an overall sum of 23.7 billion U.S. dollars (12 billion U.S. dollars in 2010).
