BRUSSELS, January 18 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia and NATO have approved a cooperation plan for 2012.
“In 2011, the most important events in the joint combat training programme were ‘Vigilant Skies’ and ‘Bold Monarch’,” chief of the Russian Army General Staff, General of the Army Nikolai Makarov said on Wednesday, January 18.
“Contacts between military medics, specialists in logistics, disposal of homemade explosive devices, and the training of military personnel were also useful,” he said.
“Cooperation in the fight against piracy off the Horn of Africa is moving to a new level,” the general said.
Russia and NATO “are also stepping up cooperation on Afghanistan”.
“This topic directly affects security near Russian borders, worries our allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation. This is why we assist the peacekeepers in Afghanistan, primarily by providing routes for delivering cargoes to Afghanistan,” Makarov said.
“On the whole, we assess the results of military interaction between Russia and NATO in 2011 positively. A plan of military cooperation for 2012 has been approved,” he said.
