Ukraine has no plans to buy gas volumes under contract with Russia

Azarov said reiterating that the current gas price without taking into consideration the Kharkov agreements makes up $516 per 1,000 cubic meters

KIEV, January 17 (Itar-Tass) — Ukraine has no plans to buy natural gas in volumes envisaged by the effective contract with Russia, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov told reporters on Tuesday.

“We’ve made it clear to them that we have no intention to buy such huge volumes of gas that are fixed in all these contracts, enslaving contracts,” he said adding that at the talks in Moscow later in the day the sides will try to negotiate a new gas price.

“The theme of the talks is one and the same, it has already set our teeth on edge. Finally we have to conclude these talks. How much time could we negotiate, it is high time to find a solution,” Azarov said reiterating that the current gas price without taking into consideration the Kharkov agreements makes up $516 per 1,000 cubic meters.

“For what sins are we punished by this contract? For what sins should we buy such expensive gas?” he said adding that “it is high time to answer, why our people should pay such a high price.”
