Putin’s campaign chief sees first round victory

Sergei Govorukhin actually confirmed reports that Putin will distance himself from the United Russia and will stake on the United Popular Front (ONF)

MOSCOW, January 17 (Itar-Tass) —— The election campaign chief of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin believes he will win in the first round of the presidential election in March as his rating is higher than 50 percent.

“I objectively assess his chances,” Sergei Govorukhin said on Monday adding Putin’s rating is much higher than that of the ruling United Russia party which got close to 50 percent at the December parliamentary election.

Govorukhin actually confirmed reports that Putin will distance himself from the United Russia and will stake on the United Popular Front (ONF).

“United Russia represents a small layer of the population while the Popular Front is the whole country,” Govorukhin said.

He welcomed Putin’s statement that Russia has recovered from the turmoil of the ‘90s and time has come for sustainable development.

“Now that the country has recovered it is time for reforms. Sustainable development means progress without leaps, ado, and misfortunes.” Govorukhin said.
