KIEV, January 16 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukraine harvested a record big grain crop of 56.7 million tonnes in 2011, according to the State Statistics Service.
In the past, Ukraine exceeded the level of 50 million tonnes only twice in 1990 (51 million tonnes) and in 2008 (53.3 million tonnes).
Crop yield in 2011 increased by 44.3 percent from 2010, including that of wheat by 32.4 percent to 22.3 million tonnes, and corn 1.9 times to 22.8 million tonnes.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the supply of grain on the domestic market in current marketing year (from July 2011 to June 2012) will exceed 62 million tonnes, while the domestic demand is 26.7 million tonnes. The ministry said there would be enough grain left for export.
