MOSCOW, January 16 (Itar-Tass) — Magistrate court of Moscow’s Basmanny district has issued a fine of 1,000 rubles /USD 1=RUB 31.6/ to Maya Zavyalova, an activist of the right-wing liberal Yabloko party, for exceeding the number of participants in a public rally against the figures coordinated with the authorities in advance.
“The court ruled today that Zavyalova had committed an offense under Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Violations, which specifies punishments for encroaching on public order during meetings, rallies, demonstrations, and pickets,” lawyer Nikolai Polozov who represents the activist in the courtroom told Itar-Tass.
He indicated that although the amount of the fine is unimpressive in reality, he will appeal the ruling, as the court ignored the evidence that the actual number of participants in the rally did not exceed 250.
Earlier, the same magistrate court issued a fine of 1,000 rubles to Yabloko’s leader, Sergei Mitrokhin, for disobedience to the police.
Maya Zavyalova was taken to the police January 14 upon the end of a rally of Yabloko supporters as the organizer of the event. The policemen issued an administrative protocol to her for exceeding the initially stated number of participants in the meeting.
