ASTANA, January 16 (Itar-Tass) —— Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev arrived in the election headquarters of the Nur Otan Party, which he heads, after midnight local time and congratulated his party partisans on the victory in the early elections in the lower house of Kazakh parliament. Citing the results of the exit polls, he noted that “our citizens voted again for stability, calmness and tolerance.”
The president noted that the current elections were exposed to some attempts to mar them by the tragic events, which broke out in Zhanaozen, the Kazakh city of oil workers, on December 16. “But, to the contrary, this fact united us even stronger. Even Zhanaozen residents voted actively and I hope that they also supported our policy. This fact points to the consolidation of our citizens and their wish to preserve stability,” he said.
Nazarbayev valued highly the fact that the Nur Otan election program, which the latter put forward, gained a strong support among Kazakh citizens again. “They understand us, they are together with us, they continue to place trust in us. Now we should fulfil our program Kazakhstan-2017 and to do our best for our citizens to live better, so that our economy will keep growing and our independence will be getting stronger,” he pointed out.
Assessing the early parliamentary elections, the president called them unprecedented “for the level of their publicity, openness and fairness.”
The exit polls showed that Nur Otan keeps a strong leadership in the elections. The Nur Otan Party gained more than 80% of votes.
