Medvedev dismisses Mikhalchuk as Arkhangelsk governor

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the early termination of powers of Governor in the Arkhangelsk Region Ilya Mikhalchuk

MOSCOW, January 13 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the early termination of powers of Governor in the Arkhangelsk Region Ilya Mikhalchuk, the Kremlin press service reported on Friday.

“I accept the resignation of governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Mikhalchuk on his own volition,” the decree runs.

Igor Orlov was appointed as acting governor in the region.

Ilya Mikhalchuk, 55, headed the Arkhangelsk Region since April 2008. He worked as the mayor of Yakutsk before this.
