RF Audit Chamber discovers violations amounting to 700 bln rbls

The Audit Chamber discovered financial violations amounting to 700 billion roubles in 2011

MOSCOW, January 13 (Itar-Tass) —— The Audit Chamber discovered financial violations amounting to 700 billion roubles in 2011, the chamber's head Sergei Stepashin said in an interview published in the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

The financial control service earlier submitted its audit report to the State Duma.

"It is a tradition. I will make a report to the lower chamber on February 10, and the documents were submitted earlier. On February 15, the report will be given to the Federation Council," Stepashin said.

According to the report, financial violations found in the budget spending sphere amounted to rbls 700 billion. In 2008, 97-bln violations were detected, in 2009, 238 billion, and in 2010, such violations amounted to 484 billion.

"We have come to the figure of 700 billion. It means that the Audit Chamber has begun to work deeper, together with law-enforcement services and the Treasury. Especially since we have dug the theme (state purchases), which we did not touch much before. Most of the questions over financial violations are precisely there," the chief auditor noted.

Administrative measures are taken following a number of audits, he said.

The materials of other audits are handed over to the prosecutor's office. They number 172. Some 150 officials are dismissed after the audits. Ninety percent of the notifications indicating financial violations have been met.

"We believe our main task is preventive work. That is that officials must be forced and obliged to correct their financial violations. And the law must work severely where funds are misused, there are abuses and thefts," Stepashin stressed.
