Flu, respiratory diseases rate in Russia under epidemics threshold

“It may be explained by the fact that not many people sought medical help during the vacations”

MOSCOW, January 12 (Itar-Tass) — The number of flu and respiratory diseases cases in Russia was under the epidemics threshold during the winter period of New Year and Christmas holidays, a spokesman for the Russian consumer rights protection authority (Rospotrebnadzor) told Itar-Tass.

“It may be explained by the fact that not many people sought medical help during the vacations,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, minor increase in the number of flu cases was reported in the Far Eastern Kamchatka territory and epidemics thresholds were slightly exceeded in the cities of Tyumen and Krasnoyarsk.

According to laboratory tests, viruses of non-flu nature still prevail. There were some cases of flu A virus (H3N2).

A total of 36 million and 846,600 people in Russia, both adults and children, have been inoculated against flu (25.8 percent of the entire number of population).
