500 police searching for 2 first-year schoolgirls lost in Bryansk

BRYANSK, January 12 (Itar-Tass) —— Over 500 policemen are searching for two first-year schoolgirls, who got lost in Bryansk. Anastasia Boraborkina and Olga Markelova did not return home from school on Wednesday.

The schoolgirls live on the outskirts of the city in the Otradnoye residential area in the Bezhitsky district. They were seen last time in the street at about 18:00 Moscow time on Wednesday.

The search for the children lasted all night long, chief press officer of the Bryansk regional police department Svetlana Kokotova told Itar-Tass on Thursday. Some 525 policemen from various police stations, police dog handlers with sniffer dogs are involved in the search. Officials from the authorities in the Bezhitsky district are also involved in the search.

The policemen are searching through the neighbouring forest, all houses and buildings in the immediate neighbourhood, commuter trains, buses and cars, Kokotova said. The police are investigating friendly ties of the schoolgirls at the school number 63 and even in the kindergarten, where they went. The police distributed the identity profiles of the schoolgirls and asked local residents to help find the whereabouts of the children.

The rescuers also engaged in the search, chief press officer of the regional emergency situation department Oleg Yankov told Itar-Tass. Additional police forces and machinery will be involved in the search if necessary.
