DUSHANBE, January 12 (Itar-Tass) — Tajik drug control police have seized this year's largest batch of contraband narcotics -- almost 100 kilogrammes of hashish and about two kilogrammes of heroin of Afghan production. The holder of the drug batch has been detained, an official at the public relations center of Tajikistan's Drug Control Agency (DCA) to the President announced Thursday.

A jobless citizen of the republic was detained as a result of an operation that was carried out in several stages. The operatives, with the aid of a sniffer dog, found a cache in his mini-bus, containing 196 compressed plates in the form of books, as well as two parcels containing a yellowish substance. Forensic expert examination revealed that the plates consisted of hashish and the parcels contained heroin.

The DCA investigation department is currently busy identifying accomplices of the drug courirer on both sides of the Tajik-Afghan border and the addresses of wholesale buyers in the territory of one of CIS republics.
