TOMSK, January 11 (Itar-Tass) —— A giant baby weighing 6.410 kilograms has made his way into the world in the Russian Siberian city of Tomsk, the press office of the regional administration told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
A 28-year-old woman gave birth to the baby on Tuesday, January 10. The baby was delivered by a Caesarian section at a regional perinatal centre.
This is the woman’s second child. Her first baby also weighed more than five kilograms, or more than an average newborn.
According to medics, newborns weighing more than five kilograms are classified as “giant babies.”
“The ‘little’ baby’s mother is a woman of average height and before getting pregnant she had weighed some 50 kilograms, but the father is very tall – about two meters,” the press service of the perinatal centre said. “The mother and her baby are now OK and will soon be discharged.”
The world's heaviest baby was born in 1879 in Ohio and weighed 10.8 kilograms, but the baby died 11 hours later, according to Guinness World Records. The heaviest baby to survive was a boy born in 1955 in Italy’s Aversa. He weighed 10.2 kilograms.
