VLADIVOSTOK, January 11 (Itar-Tass) — Air temperature in Yakutsk plunged to 50 degrees below zero, Celsius, on Wednesday morning. However, the city is not the coldest place in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Weatheremen report that the hardest frost has been recorded in Ytyk--Kuyel settlement (Tattin District (Yakutia's north-east) -- 56 degrees.

The spell of bitter frosts, with air temperature being below 50 degrees, has gripped vast expanses of Yakutia, affecting more than ten inhabited areas. The severe frosts are said to linger for another several days. Yakutsk is bracing itself for frosts that may sharpen to 55 degrees.
