KHABAROVSK, January 10 (Itar-Tass) — Police in the Khabarovsk Territory detained a man suspected of fatally running over two schoolchildren. The road accident occurred in the area of the Bureiskoye water reservoir, Amur region police told Itar-Tass on Monday.

"A driver of a cross-country vehicle ran over two brothers, aged 10 and 17, on Sunday. The elder brother died of his injuries on the spot. His 10-year-old brother was rushed to hospital, but medics failed to save his life," the police said.

Immediately after the accident, the driver, a 30-year-old resident of a local village, fled the scene, but detectives managed to track him. Preliminary reports said he had been drunk. Police opened criminal proceedings. An investigation is underway.
