BRYANSK, January 8 (Itar-Tass) —— The divers of the emergency situation service are searching for a dead child, who was dragged in the sewage collector in Bryansk. The reports that the child was found dead and recovered are not true, chief press officer of the main emergency situation department in the Bryansk Region Oleg Yankov told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
The tragedy occurred at about 13:00 Moscow time on Sunday in the Sovetsky district of the regional centre at the monument to pilots at the crossroads of Aviatsionnaya and Bryansky Front Streets. The sewage pipe ruptured and the ground caved in that resulted in the falling of a 26-year-old woman with an 18-month-old child in the perambulator underground. The woman was recovered alive from the sewage collector, the child fell out of the perambulator and was dragged down by the flood in the sewage pipe.
Emergency workers and water utility workers are searching for the dead child, Yankov said. The divers recovered the perambulator from the sewage pipe, two child boots and the hood from the coat were found at about 17:00 Moscow time in the wastewater treatment facilities, which are situated about five kilometres away from the tragedy site.
“We decided to continue the search in the night time. The divers will be searching through all pipes, the special machinery will be involved in narrow pipes. All the pipes from the incident site to the wastewater treatment facilities will be searched through, unless the dead boy is found,” Yankov said.
