8,500 policemen provide security during Christmas church services in Moscow

There are reinforced police patrols near 282 churches and monasteries of Moscow

MOSCOW, January 6 (Itar-Tass) —— More than 8,500 policemen will provide security during Christmas Day church services in Moscow, Anatoly Lastovetsky from the city police department told Itar-Tass on Friday.

“Over 8,500 officers, among them Interior Ministry Forces servicemen, and volunteers are on guard on January 6-7,” he said.

There are reinforced police patrols near 282 churches and monasteries of Moscow, including about 500 policemen near the Savior Cathedral.

Premises of the city churches and monasteries were examined by police dogs in advance, he said.

Some 650 traffic police officers regulate motor traffic. The traffic police asked citizens to park their vehicles in designated areas or to use public transport.
