MOSCOW, January 6 (Itar-Tass) – Russia’s Chief Sanitary Doctor, Gennary Onishchenko, said Thursday he is a strong opponent of dragged-out New Year/Christmas vacations – a custom that has taken shape in this country in the past ten years.
“I have strong objections to this dragged-out holidaymaking,” he told the Moscow Echo radio referring to the days off work that the Russians usually have from December 31 through to January 9.
“These vacations don’t bring about anything good,” Onishchenko said. “Nothing but an overuse of alcohol because we still have a shortage of spiritual values.”
