Ukrainian lawmaker meets with ex premier serving a sentence

The lawyer's meeting with Timoshenko is still underway; her daughter Eugenia will be allowed to see her mother after the necessity documents have been drawn

KIEV, January 3 (Itar-Tass) — Ukrainian lawmaker Sergei Vlasenko, a lawyer of former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko, was able to meet with her in the Kachanovo penitentiary in Kharkov on Tuesday, leader of the BYUT-Batkivshchina faction in the Ukrainian parliament Andrei Kozhemyakin said.

"The lawyer's meeting with Timoshenko is still underway; her daughter Eugenia will be allowed to see her mother after the necessity documents have been drawn," the lawmaker said.

Kozhemyakin said he had met with the chief of the department of penitentiary service in the Kharkov region Anatoly Slipchenko earlier in the day.

"We had a serious talk. We asked him to follow the law in everything and ensure Tismoshenko's safety at the highest level. He promised that everything will done according to the law," Kozemyakin said.

Also on Tuesday, lawmakers Sergei Vlasenko and Sergei Pashinsky talked with senior officials of the Kachanovo penitentiary.

"We familiarized ourselves with the conditions in which Timoshenko is kept," Kozhemyakin said.
