CHISINAU, January 3 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian Embassy in Moldova believes that the tragic incident at the peacekeeping post, at which Moldovan citizen Vadim Pisar was shot down, will be investigated properly.
“The embassy is following closely the situation and expresses confidence that the tragic incident will be investigated properly by the law enforcement agencies of Russia and Moldova,” the embassy said in a press release on Monday. The embassy named among the reasons for the incident “repeated blatant violations of the rules to pass the posts of joint peacekeeping forces in the security zone of the Transdniestrian conflict by a drunken person, who was driving a car not belonging to him. The violations resulted in a damaged barrier, the threat to run down a peacekeeper, crashing the barrier, the non-fulfilment of the demands to stop even after the warning shots into the air.”
“We hope that this incident will not escalate tensions in the security zone that is very undesirable for the prospects to make some progress in recently resumed official political negotiations on the Transdniestrian peace process,” the press release runs. The embassy also offered condolences to the relatives and the near and dear of the shot Moldovan citizen.
A team of detectives from the police commissariat and the prosecutor’s office in the Dubasari region together with representatives of the Joint Control Commission and the peacekeeping command are investigating the incident. The detectives found that the incident was provoked by two young men from the village Pyryta on the left bank of the Dniester River driving to Chisinau. Driving on the bridge the driver ignored the stop road sign and a barrier at the peacekeeping post, did not fulfil the demands of the peacekeepers to stop. About 20 minutes later the same car returned and the driver ignored the demands to stop again. After that the commander of the peacekeeping post has made a warning shot in the air and then opened fire at the car. The driver was severely injured in the gunfire. The peacekeepers called the ambulance, which brought the injured young man to the Chisinau first aid hospital, where the latter died of major blood loss.
