MOSCOW, January 2 (Itar-Tass) – Smoke screening in the tunnel near the Kolomenskaya station on the green /Zamoskvoretskaya/ line of the Moscow metro was caused by short-circuit failure of electrical wiring, police sources told Itar-Tass.

The central switchboard of Moscow City’s 01 fire-fighting service received a signal on the outburst of smoke at a spot some 200 meters away from the station in the tunnel leading to the city center at 10:24 Monday.

The evacuation of passengers was not needed but the traffic towards the center was suspended.

“The short-circuit failure occurred at a power panel in the tunnel and efforts are being made now to ventilate it,” a source said. “After this is done, the traffic will return to the normal mode of operation.”
