CHISINAU, January 1 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian peacekeepers wounded a local in the security zone of the Transdniestria conflict.
Moldova’s law enforcement authorities told Itar-Tass on Sunday that the incident occurred at about 07:00 local time /09:00 Moscow time/ at a border crossing station near the town of Vadul-lui-Voda.
According to preliminary information, a group of young people headed in a car to a neighbouring village and refused to follow instructions on crossing the border station. The driver did not react to the order from peacekeepers on guard, nor did he react the warning shots. The peacekeepers had to use special pinned devices and after a warning shooting had to open fire. One of the passengers in the car, a young man, was taken to Chisinau’s ambulance hospital. Doctors are making a surgery.
Headquarters of the peacekeepers told Itar-Tass that the incident did not claim victims at the border crossing station, which the peacekeepers are guarding.
In compliance with the agreement on principles of peaceful settlement of the armed conflict of July 21, 1992, joint peacekeeping forces of Russia, Moldova and Transdniestria remain in the security zone of the Transdniestria conflict.
