MOSCOW, December 31 (Itar-Tass) —— President Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the people of Russia on New Year.
In his televised address in the last minutes of the outgoing year, Medvedev said the past year was “not easy but is ending well for our country. And this is a result of our joint work”.
“Exactly 20 years ago we saw New Year in for the first time in a country with the name of Russia, a name glorified by the acts of our great ancestors who over centuries had built a large and very strong power and created a great country. And it is our duty to preserve it and build a progressive state where we all can have a comfortable life and interesting work,” the president said.
Following is the full text of the president’s message:
“Dear citizens of Russia! Dear friends! The chimes will strike in a moment and we will congratulate each other on New Year. Every home is filled with a festive and very special atmosphere now.
“Traditionally, we see the old year out these minutes. It was not easy but is ending well for our country. And this is a result of our joint work. What the coming year will be like also depends on us.
“Exactly 20 years ago we saw New Year in for the first time in a country with the name of Russia, a name glorified by the acts of our great ancestors who over centuries had built a large and very strong power and created a great country. And it is our duty to preserve it and build a progressive state where we all can have a comfortable life and interesting work.
“Yes, we are all very different, but this is where our strength is, just as it is in our ability to hear, understand and respect each other, overcome difficulties and achieve success together.
“Dear friends! New Year is almost here. It’s time to uncork the bottles of sparkling wine and make our wishes. On this night I am wishing health and well-being to you and your families, I am wishing you love and hope that all of your dreams will come true.
“Believe in yourself, and I believe in each of you. And we will always succeed!
“Happy New Year 2012!”
