Police detain 60 opposition activists in Moscow

MOSCOW, December 31 (Itar-Tass) —— Police detained about 60 people who had tried to organise an unauthorised protest in central Moscow on Saturday, December 31.

About 200 people, some 100 reporters and bloggers gathered in Triumfalnaya Square on Saturday evening, the city police department said.

Despite numerous warnings to leave, some people refused to obey and were detained.

Un unauthorised protest was also organised in Nizhny Novgorod where Boris Nemtsov, one of the Strategy 31 activists, said he might run for Nizhny Novgorod region governor if gubernatorial elections were restored.

Some 50-60 people attended the protest.
